photoshop nuclear blast font effect PDF Print E-mail

Open a new document in Photoshop and fill the background whit black. Now create a new layer (Layer / New / Layer…). Pick the Horizontal Type Tool, choose a color (I’ll go with #ff5400), font (my choice is Palatino Linotype) and write something.

Image

Right-click on the font layer and choose Blending Options… Add these options:

Duplicate layer (Layer / Duplicate Layer…). Since we need to add some filters, we’re going to rasterize that layer. If we rasterize the layer through Layer / Rasterize / Layer, applied blending options will remain and then it’ll be difficult to use filters. It’ll be difficult because filters can smear applied blending options. So we need to rasterize that layer in a little different way, so the text and the effects will be “glued together”. This is how we’re going to do it: create a new layer above the text layer copy, select them both and then go to Layer / Merge Layers.

Image

Go to Filter / Pixelate / Crystallize and set the cell size on 10.

Image

Now go to Filter / Sharpen / Sharpen More and apply the filter two more times.

Image

Move the rasterized layer beneath the original text layer, and a bit to the right. You can nudge it with the Move Tool. Just select it and tap right arrow on the keyboard a few times.

Apply Inner Shadow with these options and after that set the blending mode on the original text layer on Lighten.

Image

Pick a Rectangular Marquee Tool and make a selection around the font. Go to Edit / Copy Merged and then Edit / Paste. Move the layer on top of the others.

Image

Now go to Filter / Stylize / Wind… and set the Method on Blast and Direction on From the right.

Image

Apply motion blur (Filter / Blur / Motion Blur…) with Distance set on 25px and set the blending mode to Pin Light.

In the end, go to Filter / Pixelate / Crystallize and set the cell size on 5px. After that, tweak a bit final result if you want, but that is it.
